LEVEL 2 ADULT CARE WORKER
Who is this Apprenticeship for?

The Adult Care Worker Level 2 is for someone who provides frontline care for vulnerable adults within their own homes, day care centres, residential and nursing homes and other healthcare settings. On completion of this 12 month standard, apprentices will demonstrate a range of excellent skills such as helping adults with care and support needs to live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives which is at the heart of person centred care.

The Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship includes a 20% off-the-job training requirement.
Training takes on average 12-14 months to complete, however this can be shorter dependent upon whether the employee has any recognition of prior learning (RPL) or unit/credit exemptions. We will discuss this with your staff at enrolment.

What will this cost to a Business/Employer?
Non-levy paying employers will need to contribute 5% of the maximum funding band as published by the Skills Funding Agency for the delivery of training and assessment for their apprenticeship. In this instance the fee is £150.00.

Eligibility:
• Be aged 16 years or older, Have been resident in the UK/EU for at least three years prior to commencing their apprenticeship
• Be employed in England and have a Contract of Employment
• Not currently enrolled onto any other apprenticeship, or another DfE funded FE/HE programme
• Learners/employees should be aged 16 or over to undertake the qualification.

Certification
Successful candidates will receive a Level 2 Diploma Care (Adults) for England from ICQ, an awarding body within England and Wales who are currently recognised by Ofqual and the Department for Education and Skills.

Course Contents
Each unit within the Diploma has a credit rating. Learners must achieve a minimum of 58 credits to gain the Level 2 Diploma in Care (Adults) for England.

The apprenticeship is made up of the following components:
• Level 2 Diploma in Care (Adults) for England (QCF)
• The Care Certificate
• Functional Skills English and Maths (Level 1)
• Functional Skills English and Maths (Level 2) must be attempted before completion of the apprenticeship although this does not have to be achieved to complete the apprenticeship.

The Training will cover the following units:
Mandatory units
•Duty of care
• Communicating in care settings
• Responsibilities of a care worker
• Handling information in care settings
• Equality & inclusion in care settings
• Personal development in care settings
• Safeguarding & protection in care settings
• Health, safety & wellbeing in care settings
• Implementing person-centred approaches in care settings

Optional units
•Supporting individuals to eat & drink
• Meeting personal care needs
• Moving & positioning individuals in accordance with their care plan
• Supporting care plan activities
• Providing support for therapy sessions

End Point Assessment
Apprentices access End Point Assessment following a gateway discussion with their employer and trainer where entry requirements are discussed, checked and recorded including functional skills at the required level. The End Point Assessment will include the following types of assessment:
• Situational Judgement test.
• Professional Discussion.
• Self-Assessment.
• Collate testimonies from people who use services.
